Obscura partnered with YouTube to produce this year’s Brandcast event at Radio City Music Hall, transforming the venue by combining its permanent projection system with large-scale LED screens and lighting for a fully immersive experience. I had the opportunity to create visual content for Dua Lipa’s performance of “New Rules.” Drawing inspiration from the aesthetic direction of the original music video, I developed an immersive tropical oasis filled with vibrant color, fluid motion, and psychedelic energy to enhance the performance onstage.
THE VENUE|
Designing for Radio City Music Hall is always a unique pleasure. The venue features ten architectural coves that wrap the interior of the theater, paired with a flexible arrangement of LED screens onstage. Because the screen configuration changes each year, every production presents new creative opportunities.
For this show, I used both the coves and the LED screens to create sweeping, pulsating color washes that moved from the rear of the theater toward the audience, transforming the entire space into a vibrant, immersive environment. As the front LED screens lowered, the visual experience evolved into a playful ride featuring dancing flamingos and rainbow-hued “roads.” The piece draws heavily on my love of Lisa Frank—making the final look feel like a vivid, childhood dream brought to life inside the venue.
